Three Islamic State terrorist group members arrested in Diyala
Three Islamic State members were arrested in Muqdadiya region in Diyala, a security source from the province was quoted saying on Monday.
Speaking to Almaalomah website, the source said “security troops managed to arrest three Islamic State members who were planning for terrorist operations against civilians.”
Information gathered by the intelligence, according to the source, “indicated their presence inside a house, possessing weapons and telecommunication devices.”
The militants were taken to detention cell for investigations, he added.
Last week, several Islamic State members were killed as a bomb went off inside a vehicle, while passing by al-Bu Tarmish region, northeast of Diyala.
Islamic State continues to launch sporadic attacks across Iraq against troops. Security reports indicate that the militant group still poses threat against stability in the country. The group still has dormant cells, through which it carries out attacks, across Iraq like it used to do before 2014.
Thousands of Islamic State militants as well as Iraqi civilians were killed since the government campaign, backed by paramilitary troops and the coalition was launched in October 2016.
In December, the Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi announced gaining control on all the territories that were captured by Islamic State, since 2014.
