Islamic State terrorists attack killed two and wounds three in the latest attack on checkpoints in Iraq
At least two members of Iraq’s security forces were killed during separate Islamic State (IS) attacks on checkpoints in Salahaddin province.
According to a statement by military, three others were injured after they attempted to retrieve the bodies left from the first attack, carried out via an IED (improvised explosive device) blast.
“The elements of the terrorist Daesh gangs attacked two security checkpoints in Alas oilfields area of Salahuddin province, and an improvised explosive device blew up a vehicle belonging to the security forces stationed there, leading to the martyrdom of two of them,” Reuters quoted the statement.
The attacks took place near Allas oilfield, 35 km (20 miles) south of Hawija, which was one of the main sources of revenue for IS after it took control of the area back in 2014.
