Islamic State terror suspect detained in southeastern Turkey
A Daesh/ISIS terror suspect attempting to illegally enter Turkiye was arrested near the country’s southeastern border, according to security sources on Tuesday.
Security forces acting on a tip caught the terrorist in the Ceylanpinar district of Sanliurfa province, the source noted, requesting anonymity due to restrictions on speaking to the media.
Separately, police teams in the Black Sea province of Kastamonu, arrested seven foreign nationals during simultaneous operations against the terror group at seven addresses.
Turkiye became one of the first countries to declare Daesh/ISIS a terror group in 2013.
The country has since been attacked multiple times by the terror group, with more than 300 people killed and hundreds injured in at least 10 suicide bombings, seven bomb attacks and four armed assaults.
In response, Turkiye launched anti-terror operations at home and abroad to prevent further attacks.
