Islamic State is still a serious threat to the region
Kurdish prominent leader and the president of ruling Kurdistan democratic Party (KDP), Masoud Barzani, on Thursday warned that the Islamic State (IS) is still a serious threat to the security and stability of the entire region despite groups’ defeat on the battleground.
In a statement to offer condolences to the families of the fallen Peshmerga forces who lost their lives in an IS attack overnight Wednesday, Barzani said it proves that fact “that the terrorists have reorganized themselves”.
IS attached Peshmerga positions for the second time in a week last night near Khanaqin. During a fierce fighting, three Peshmerga troops were killed and two others were injured.
