Islamic State sniper kills a soldier and injures others in Iraq
A security source said on Monday that a soldier was killed and three others were injured, including an officer, in two separate attacks north of Jalwla district, 70 km north of Baquba.
“A soldier was killed by ISIS sniper targeting checkpoints of the army forces at the outskirts of the northern Jalwla district, the source told Shafaq News.
The source confirmed that the soldier was killed by a sniper, while the army forces managed to foil the attack without any other information.
In another incident, an army officer and two of my companions were injured by a roadside bomb that targeted a Hummer vehicle carrying them on the outskirts of Jalawla.
It is noteworthy that the northern areas of Jalwla witnessed a security disruption for more than a year after the infiltration of ISIS elements fleeing from the liberated regions and governorates to orchards and agricultural sites.
The disputed Jalawla district lies between Erbil and Baghdad in Iraq, 70 kilometers northeast of Baquba, and it is inhabited by a mix of Arabs, Kurds, and Turkmen. The district fell to the militant organization in August 2014 before it was restored in November of the same year.
