Islamic State emir and five insurgents captured near Kirkuk
The Iraqi security forces managed to capture an Islamic State (IS) Emir as well as five insurgents of the group near the disputed Kurdish province of Kirkuk.
According to a statement by Iraq’s Security Media Cell, the six militants were captured during an operation by the country’s counter-terrorism forces in an area between Kirkuk and Salahaddin provinces on Wednesday.
The arrests come as the group’s movements and terrorist activities have once again increased in the majority of liberated areas in Iraq.
Reports said that a bomb blast, suspected to have been carried out by the militant group, resulted in the killing of a farmer while it injured a woman and a child in Jalawla, Diyala province.
Meanwhile, the jihadists, wearing Iraqi military uniforms, killed two civilians and wounded another in the disputed Kurdish town of Makhmour.
