Former Islamic State lawyer sentenced to death by the Iraqi court in Nineveh
A court in the Iraqi province of Nineveh sentenced on Sunday a former Islamic State (IS) lawyer to death, the Supreme Judicial Council of Iraq said in a statement.
According to the press release, the death penalty was ordered by Iraq’s Nineveh Criminal Court on Sunday after the insurgent confessed to have worked with the extremist group when the jihadists were ruling part of Iraqi territory in 2014 and two years beyond.
The militant, the statement said, used to receive orders from the Islamic State while he was in Syria’s Hajin region, adding that he was responsible for revealing the identity of prominent figures in the province of Nineveh for the jihadist group.
Iraq has sentenced hundreds of IS members, including women, to either death, several years in jail or giving life imprisonments to the majority of cases in the past two years.
