Senior Islamic State leader captured in Khanaqin
A senior Islamic State (IS) leader was captured on Sunday in the disputed town of Khanaqin, the Iraqi Directorate of General Military Intelligence said.
The directorate said in a statement, a copy of which was shared with BasNews, that the IS leader used to operate the militant group’s terrorist activities in the province of Diyala.
Ali al-Sudani, the head of Diyala intelligence directorate, told BasNews that the senior jihadist who had been involved in tens of terrorist activities in the region was wanted by the court.
Although the Islamic State was declared defeated in Iraq long time ago, the insurgent group’s sleeper cells are still active in most liberated areas in the country.
