Islamic State drone blows up ammo dump in Syria
Islamic State has claimed it launched a drone strike that blew up a Syrian army ammunition dump, causing a huge explosion.
The terrorist group’s propaganda unit released video of the attack in Syria’s mid Euphrates Valley where Syrian government forces have been fiercely combating jihadist fighters since last month.
Video shows the drone hovering over the army munitions depot before it releases a bomb that plummets to the ground.
After a few seconds there is an explosion that appears to trigger a chain reaction, setting off more detonations around the site.
The whole of the munitions dump then becomes engulfed with smoke and flames.
The incident shows how well ISIS has developed affordable commercial drones into lethal weapons.
It’s a threat that has resulted in the US pouring money into developing anti-drone devices such as laser guns.
