ISIS module: Among arrested, former IT employee from Pune
Among the four people arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) from Maharashtra for alleged links to the ISIS is 39-year-old Zubair Noor Mohammed Shaikh, a resident of Kondhwa in Pune.
A family friend of Shaikh, who did not wish to be named, said, “Zubair earlier worked for an IT firm. He left that job some time ago and has been doing some marketing business.”
“We know that some officials had come to his house last week and searched the place. Around 4am on Monday, some NIA officials came to his house and took him to Kondhwa police station. Sometime before noon, more officers came from Mumbai and questioned him, we have been told. They took him to Mumbai around 4pm, and in the evening reports of his arrest came in,” said the family friend.
Sources said that in a case registered on June 28 with the Mumbai NIA, the agency has invoked Sections 120B (criminal conspiracy) and 121A (waging, or attempting to wage war, or abetting waging of war, against the Government) of the IPC.
The NIA has also invoked Sections 18 (conspiracy), 18A (organising terrorist camps), 18B (recruiting of any person or persons for terrorist act), 38 (membership of a terrorist organisation) and 39 (support given to a terrorist organisation) of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).
