ISIS “Facebook cell” arrested in three European countries: Spain, Germany, and Belgium
Five terrorist suspects linked to ISIS were arrested by Spanish, German and Belgian security services on Wednesday.
Arrests were made almost simultaneously in Wuppertal, Germany, Melilla and Barcelona, Spain, and Brussels, Belgium. Four were Spanish citizens, and one was Moroccan.
According to the Spanish Interior Minister, Jorge Fernández Díaz, the men are part of an “active and dangerous” terrorist cell promoting Islamist militancy. The group used the Facebook page “Islam en Español” to glorify the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq.
The page referred to “martyrs” and the significance of individual Jihad. It had 32,000 Spanish speaking followers, adding almost 500 new per week.
