Iraqi intelligence arrest ISIS member involved in terrorist attacks in Kirkuk
An Islamic State terrorist was arrested Sunday in Kirkuk province over his involvement in several terrorist attacks.
The Security Media Cell said, in a press statement, that an intelligence force arrested an Islamic State member in Atshana village of Kirkuk.
The arrestee confessed to joining the Islamic State group and carrying out several terrorist attacks against civilians and security forces, the statement read.
Iraq declared victory over Islamic State in December with the help of a US-led alliance, having retaken all the territory captured by the extremists in 2014 and 2015.
Isolated cells believed to be linked to the Islamic State group remain active in some parts of the country. In recent weeks, suspected Islamic State insurgents have carried out several attacks targeting security forces in the areas north-west of Kirkuk.
