Iraqi federal police destroyed Islamic State hideouts in Kirkuk
The Iraqi Interior Ministry announced federal police forces destroyed two Islamic State (ISIS) group hideouts in Kirkuk governorate on Sunday (April 10).
The ministry said police forces carried out an operation in the area of Abu Khanajar southwest of Kirkuk. Explosives were seized during the operation and later destroyed, according to the ministry.
In a separate incident, a member of Popular Mobilization Forces (Hashd al-Shaabi) was killed and four wounded in an ISIS attack on the village of Dikshman in Kirkuk on Saturday.
Iraqi forces have carried out operations including air strikes against ISIS in a crackdown on the militant group’s activities over the past few months.
While victory was declared over the Islamic State in 2017, extremist cells have continued to carry out attacks, including assaults on villages and security forces, in particular in mountainous areas in Kirkuk, Diyala and Salahadin.
