Iraqi citizen killed in terrorist armed attack north of Baghdad
An Iraqi citizen was killed Sunday in an armed attack north of Baghdad, a security source said as the country still suffers from a lack of security since the defeat of the Islamic State terrorist group in 2017.
Speaking to Iraq’s privately-owned Alsumaria News TV channel, the source said that armed men opened fire at a citizen in al-Shoala district, north of Baghdad, leaving him dead.
Security forces cordoned off the site and carried the victim into the forensic medicine department, added the source.
The Iraqi capital has seen almost daily bombings and armed attacks against security members, paramilitary troops and civilians since the Iraqi government launched a wide-scale campaign to retake Islamic State-occupied areas in 2016. Though most of the daily bombings go without a claim of responsibility, Islamic State is expected to be behind many.
