Iraqi authorities build wall around Anbar to stop the Islamic State infiltration
Iraqi authorities are making preparations to construct a wall around Anbar province in efforts to stop the infiltration of the Islamic State (IS) jihadists into the province, an official said on Monday.
Rutba Mayor Emad Dilemi told reporters that the wall will be 16 kilometers long and two meters high stretching from the town of al-Waleed, Anbar province.
The project is under construction now, he said, noting that it aims at preventing the Islamic State jihadists from sneaking into the province.
This comes as there has been a dramatic increase in IS attacks in various areas in the country. The jihadists killed more than 40 pro-Iranian Hashd al-Shaabi militiamen in a recent attack.
