Iraqi army warplanes pound Islamic State hideouts in Mount Hamrin
The Iraqi warplanes bombarded a number of hideouts of the Islamic State (IS) on Mount Hamrin, the province of Diyala, a statement said on Monday.
Iraq’s Joint Operations Command said in a statement that a great number of jihadists were killed in the airstrikes, without elaborating on the specific number.
Speaking to BasNews concerning the resurgence of the Islamic State and its movements in the region, Nassir Ahmed, a lawmaker at the Kurdistan Region parliament, argued that the extremists have taken advantage of the absence of Peshmerga forces.
Meanwhile, he claimed that those Arabs that were brought by the Iraqi government from other provinces to the disputed Kurdish areas, are used to harm the Kurds in the region, with pro-Iranian Hashd al-Shaabi militias remaining silent about the incidents.
Mount Hamrin is an area stretched from Diyala province to Kirkuk province and southern Nineveh.
