Iraqi Army forces arrested dangerous Islamic State insurgent in Kirkuk
Iraqi security forces overnight on Tuesday arrested a leading member of the Islamic State (IS) in the disputed Kurdish province of Kirkuk, north of Iraq.
A security source told BasNews the IS insurgent was known as a “dangerous element” in the region.
He was apprehended while attempting to travel through a security checkpoint in Kirkuk, the source added. He was already known and on the arrest list.
Iraqi security forces last week announced the arrest of a number of key IS elements in northern Iraq, among them was an IS Mufti who was said to be responsible for many execution orders and destruction of historic sites in Nineveh province during the rule of IS between 2014 and 2017.
