Ilhan Omar’s 2022 World Cup trip paid for by Hamas
Far-left, anti-Israel Rep. Ilhan Omar’s (D-Minn.) trip to the 2022 World Cup was paid for, in part, by the government of Qatar, the lawmaker’s financial disclosures show.
The Doha government footed the bill for the congresswoman’s lodging and food during the trip, per her annual report for 2022 — which was filed in May, but first reported this week by Jewish Insider.
Omar’s report did not divulge specifically how much Qatar paid, but the the trip did include a stop at the Ahmad bin Ali Stadium to watch the US men draw Wales, 1-1, in their opening match of the tournament.
“It was such a delight to root for #TeamUSA at the World Cup in Qatar and today we are excited to root for them here at home,” Omar tweeted about her visit last year.

Omar “accepted an invitation from the Embassy of Qatar to attend events in Doha in November 2022 as part of a program authorized under the Mutual Educational and Cultural Exchange Act,” a rep for Qatar’s embassy in Washington told Jewish Insider.
Under the Mutual Educational and Cultural Exchange Act of 1961, lawmakers are permitted to entertain certain trips abroad funded by foreign nations if they are disclosed.
Other lawmakers who accepted trips to Qatar during the World Cup included Reps. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.), André Carson (D-Ind.), Claudia Tenney (R-NY), Darin LaHood (R-Ill.) and Bryan Steil (R-Wis.).
The awarding of the World Cup to Qatar was widely criticized, due in large part to the Arab nation’s human rights record. However, Qatar has also sent hundreds of millions of dollars to Hamas — a Palestinian militant group designated a terrorist organization by the US government.
“We are slated to host the World Cup next with Mexico and Canada,” Omar argued last year in defending both her trip and the awarding of the tournament to the Middle Eastern country. “I wonder what kinds of conversations will be had, and how many people will object to that happening with the history of indigenous people, of enslavement, of police brutality.”
In 2022, Omar also took a trip to Pakistan, with food and lodging funded by the Islamabad government, according to the disclosure.
Her office did not immediately return a request for comment from The Post.
Omar, became the first Somali-American woman elected to the House in 2018 and is one of three Muslims currently serving in the lower chamber.
She has been an outspoken critic of Israel, and has been frequently and credibly accused of anti-semitism.
Last month, she boycotted Israeli President Isaac Herzog’s address to a joint meeting of Congress, along with other members of the progressive “Squad,” including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY).
