IDF catches terrorist after attempted terror attack in Huwara

A car was shot at on Route 60 near Huwara on Thursday evening in what is suspected to be an attempted terror attack, according to an IDF statement.

There were no reported dead or wounded; the back window of the car, which was en route to Tapuach, was shattered by the gunshot.

Magen David Adom paramedics responded to the event and found three passengers in the attacked vehicle: A man and a woman in their 20s and an infant.

They were not physically harmed but were reportedly in shock.

The attacker reportedly fled on foot, and Israeli security forces stated that they were in pursuit.

A short time later, the IDF released a statement saying the attacker had been killed.

The IDF later confirmed details of the attack on X (formerly Twitter), stating that “a terrorist opened fire at a vehicle, using this weapon (pictured in the X post), adjacent to the Einabus Junction in the town of Huwara earlier today. Hits were identified on the Israeli vehicle and shell casings were located in the area. IDF soldiers operated following precise ISA intelligence to locate and neutralize the terrorist.”

Later, the IDF announced that it would be tightening security and ordered the temporary closing of businesses in the area.

“In accordance with the situation assessment, it has been decided to close the shops along the Hawara route in order to strengthen security preparedness in the area, concurrent with the reinforcement of security and resources in the region,” the IDF stated. “Additionally, there will be dedicated reinforcement for the region in another brigade.”
