Ibrahim Aqil

Terror organization: Hezbollah


Status: He serves on Hezbollah’s highest military body, the Jihad Council.


Role: Head of operations. For decades he operated in the dark and was responsible for the organization’s military strengthening. He is one of the main thinkers and planners of the Radwan force’s operational plan for the invasion of the Galilee.

Aqil was a senior operative at the Islamic Jihad Organization that became later officially the operative branch of Hezbollah. it was funded by Iran. Aqil was involved at the bombings of the U.S. Embassy in Beirut in April 1983, which killed 63 people, and the U.S. Marine barracks in October 1983, which killed 241 U.S. personnel.

In the 1980s, Aqil directed the taking of American and German hostages in Lebanon and held them there.

He is one of the most important characters at Hezbollah’s MO in South Lebanon. Some say he serves as the general of the entire South Lebanon region. He also leads the unique field of so-called “attack tunnels” that cross underground from southern Lebanon to northern Israel
