Houthis Top leader: KSA refused to exchange Hamas detainees in exchange for captured Saudi pilots in Yemen
In a recent address on the eve of the new Hijri year, Houthi leader Abdul Malik Al-Houthi revealed that Saudi Arabia refused to release Hamas detainees in exchange for captured Saudi pilots in Sana’a.
He accused the Saudi regime of escalating tensions by attempting to disrupt Sana’a airport and the ports of Hodeidah, pushing towards a state of all-out war.
Al-Houthi issued a stark warning to Saudi Arabia, cautioning them against relying on American protection if they choose to get involved further.
Notably, the Houthis and the internationally recognized Yemeni government recently concluded a new round of UN-sponsored negotiations in Oman without reaching a feasible solution.
The parties agreed to exchange lists of detainees, with the approved lists to be released within two months. Future rounds of negotiations are expected to address additional humanitarian and economic issues.
Houthis have accused Saudi Arabia of obstructing the peace process in Yemen, alleging that Saudi actions have incited opposition parties to target the financial sector and airways.
In response, the Houthis seized four Yemenia Airways planes at Sana’a airport two weeks ago, resulting in Yemeni pilgrims returning to Sana’a airport.
This action signals a potential compromise between the Houthis and Saudi Arabia aimed at de-escalating tensions.
