Houthis claim attack on Israeli military base near Jaffa
Houthi fighters from the Yemeni Ansar Allah movement have attacked an Israeli military base located near Jaffa (the Arab district of Tel Aviv) in the center of the country, Yahya Saree, the group’s military spokesperson, reported in a statement published on his Telegram channel.
According to the statement, the attack was carried out using a Palestine-2 hypersonic ballistic missile. Reports suggest that a fire broke out at the base after the projectile struck.
The Houthi spokesman described the missile attack on Israeli territory as part of the “fifth stage of escalation” in opposition to Israel. Saree emphasized that Ansar Allah will persist in its attacks until Israel’s “aggression” against Palestine and Lebanon is stopped.
With the conflict in the Gaza Strip escalating, the Ansar Allah (Houthi) movement announced that it would conduct strikes on Israeli territory and block pro-Israeli vessels from passing through the waters of the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait until Tel Aviv ceases its military operations in the Palestinian enclave. Since last year, the Houthis have attacked dozens of civilian vessels in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.
In response to Ansar Allah’s actions, US officials announced the creation of an international coalition and the preparation of Operation Prosperity Guardian to ensure freedom of navigation and protection of ships in the Red Sea. As a result, UK and US forces began regularly targeting rebel military facilities in Yemen.
