FPM Says Hezbollah Terminated The Alliance Between Them
Hezbollah has decided to terminate the memorandum of understanding with the Free Patriotic Movement, according to FPM MP Jimmy Jabbour.
“The detachment between the FPM and Hezbollah has taken place, and the separation has become a fact,” said Jabbour, adding that Hezbollah “took the decision after considering that there was no need anymore for the alliance with the FPM.”
Jabbour also commented on the lack of progress in the election of a new president, saying that “the political forces are aware that there will be no election of a president in the foreseeable future.”
He also made it clear that the FPM will not participate in a parliament session that secures 65 votes for Marada Movement leader Sleiman Franjieh.
“The FPM is coherent and so are all its MPs,” Jabbour emphasized.
The Mar Mikhael Agreement, which was established as a basis for cooperation between the FPM and Hezbollah, has been reduced “to nothing but the protection of the resistance.”
While there is no longer any partnership between the two groups, the FPM remains steadfast in its principles and stands ready to fulfill its obligations,” he said.
This comes shortly after Hezbollah reportedly rejected a meeting request by FPM leader Gebran Bassil with Hassan Nasrallah.
