Hamas delegation in Cairo for talks with Egyptian officials
According to an official statement released by Hamas, the delegation includes the head of the movement abroad Khaled Mashel and vice president of the movement Saleh Al-Arouri.
The delegation will discuss with Egyptian officials the Israeli violations in East Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque, the increasing violence against the Palestinian people, and the siege on Gaza, said the official spokesperson of the movement Hazem Kassem.
According to Kassem, the delegation will meet with head of the General Intelligence Service Abbas Kamel.
Last week, Cairo hosted a Palestinian delegation from the Gaza strip led by prominent members of the Islamic Jihad.
The visit comes amid heightened Israeli-Palestinian tensions since the new far-right government of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu came to power in late December.
Egypt has warned of the severe dangers of the ongoing escalation between the Palestinian and Israeli sides, calling for maximum restraint and an end to aggression and provocative measures.
