Fresh Islamic State attack killed seven Iraqi forces and injures eight people
Islamic State (IS) jihadists on Saturday night carried out two separate attacks in Iraq’s Diyala province, killing at least seven troops and wounding eight others.
Diyala police spokesperson Nihad Mohammed told BasNews that the first attack occurred near Uzeim subdistrict where the IS jihadists attacked the Iraqi army personnel with a roadside bomb.
According to Mohammed, one fighter was killed and three others were wounded as a result of the explosion.
Elsewhere near Baquba, a group of IS militants attacked a police checkpoint which led to a fierce confrontation.
Mohammed confirmed that six policemen were killed and five others were wounded in the second attack.
It comes amid concerns over the reemergence of IS as the group has significantly increased its attacks in Iraq, especially in the provinces of Diyala and Salahaddin.
A day earlier, security sources said that at least 40 Shia militias of Hashd al-Shaabi were killed in large-scale IS attack in Salahaddin province.
