French police say reports of armed man at French university
Earlier in the day, French newspaper Le Parisien reported that police were responding to a call of an armed man intruding in a library building.
According to local police, they did not find a perpetrator when they carried out a major operation in the university’s library building.
The police also mentioned “swatting” – a method used to persuade people that an attack is ongoing in order to get law enforcement to intervene.
Commenting on the situation, Essonne prefecture stated that the operation was launched “following a call reporting the presence of individuals with a handgun”.
“As a preventive measure, the university library has been evacuated and a secured perimeter has been created around the university premises”.
