Iraqi army forces gun down two Islamic State suicide bombers in Anbar
Two Islamic State terrorists were killed Monday while trying to plant a bomb in the Iraqi province of Anbar, a security source was quoted as saying.
“Acting upon a tip-off, security forces, using intelligence data, gunned down two Islamic State suicide bombers as they tried to plant a roadside bomb in al-Sakra area in Anbar,” the source told Almaalomah news website.
He added that the two terrorists “tried to plant the bomb in order to block the advancement of security forces towards al-Sakra area, where IS hotbeds were assumed to be stormed soon.”
Iraq declared the collapse of Islamic State’s territorial influence in November 2017 with the recapture of Rawa, a city on Anbar’s western borders with Syria, which was the group’s last bastion in Iraq.
