Iraqi forces arrest head of ISIS’s Amaq News Agency in Mosul

Head of the ISIS terrorist group’s Amaq News Agency Othman Khalid al-Amin has been captured by the Iraqi forces near Mosul city, an Iraqi army major reported on Monday.

The Turkey’s state-run Anadolu news agency quoted Iraqi Army Major Abdul Aziz al-Mo’azidi as disclosing that the Iraqi forces have detained Head of Amaq News Agency, the media wing of ISIL terrorist group in the village of al-Lak near Mosul.

Anadolu further said that Khalid al-Amin was interrogated by the Iraqi forces right on the spot, leading the Baghdad forces to detain six al-Amin’s aids in the same village.

The Amaq was established in 2014 when ISIL was ruling large parts of Iraq and Syria.

In late February, the Iraqi army troops attacked a hideout of the ISIL terrorist group in Western Mosul, killing over two dozen terrorists.

The Iraqi army launched mortar attacks on an ISIL hideout in a cave in Jebkeh village in Ba’aj town West of Mosul, the Arabic-language al-Mayadeen news network reported.

It noted that the ISIL’s hideout was fully destroyed and a sum of 30 terrorists were killed.

Iraq’s Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi declared the end of military operations against the ISIL group in the Arab country.

ISIL began a terror campaign in Iraq in 2014, overrunning vast swathes in lightning attacks. Iraqi forces then launched operations to eliminate ISIL and retake lost territory.
