Footage shows ISIS fighter forcing a child to act as a human shield during firefight with Iraqi forces
Sickening footage shows an ISIS militant apparently using a child as a human shield during a battle with Iraqi forces.
A drone captured the soldier appearing to drag a young boy out from inside a house and forcing him into the middle of the road in central Mosul’s Old City district in Iraq.
They quickly crossed the street and took shelter near a second house – in an area where almost 4,000 civilians are estimated to have been killed since February.
The pair then walk down a side street – with the fighter grabbing the boy by the scruff of the neck to keep him close.
It is not know what happened to the child or the fighter after the footage ended.
The video was released by the Iraqi Federal Police service and filmed through combat equipment.
It is estimated that 1,000 people have been killed in March by US airstrikes alone in the district, according to Al-Masdar News.
Iraqi forces backed by a US led coalition, recaptured eastern Mosul in January after three months of fighting to retake the city that fell to Islamic State in 2014.
They launched a new offensive to recapture the citys western side in February. It comes after reports that ISIS has kidnapped almost 200 children to use as human shields in the battle for Mosul.
