Five Tajik women jailed for participation in hostilities in Afghanistan alongside Islamic State terrorist group
Radio Liberty’s Tajik Service, known locally as Radio Ozodi, says five Tajik women have got lengthy jail terms for participation in hostilities in Afghanistan alongside the Islamic State (IS) terror group.
According to Radio Ozodi, the women were extradited to Tajikistan from Afghanistan on July 8 last year and in September and October they were sentenced by a court in Dushanbe’s Sino district and a court in Vahdat Township to between 12 and 14 years in prison.
The sentences reportedly followed their conviction on charges of collaborating with IS terror group in Afghanistan.
Farida Majidova, Dilafrouz Rizoyeva and Olima Kamolova were sentenced to 12 years each, while Noziya Arbobova and Nargiza Halimova were sentenced to 14 years I prison each.
Their defense lawyers, the women themselves and their relatives deny this accusation as absolutely baseless.
The Tajik authorities have not yet provided any information on this subject.
