Five members of the Popular Mobilization Forces killed in an Islamic State attack in Saladin
A security source in Saladin reported today, Thursday, that five members of Al-Hashd Al-Shaabi (PMF) were killed, while 8 others were injured in an attack carried out by ISIS targeting a religious shrine in the Dujail district, south of the governorate.
The source told Shafaq News agency, “ISIS terrorists attacked, yesterday night, the shrine of Ibrahim bin Malik al-Ashtar, at the outskirts of the Khazraj village, south of Dujail, south of Saladin Governorate”, indicating that, “the forces of the First Brigade of Al-Hashd responded to the attack”.
The source explained, “The terrorist attack was accompanied by the explosion of an explosive device targeting Al-Hashd members at the outskirts of the shrine, which killed 5 members and wounded 8 others”, adding, “ISIS terrorists used sniper weapons and medium weapons during the attack and clashed with Al-Hashd forces, before security reinforcements arrived at the scene and forced the terrorists to flee”.
“Forces from the tribes accompanied the security forces in a combing and tracking campaign to pursue the terrorists that carried out the attack, no losses or injuries among the organization’s terrorists were confirmed”.
Al-Dujail district (formerly Al-Fares district) is affiliated to Saladin Governorate. the population of the district is nearly 104,000, according to 2014 estimates.
