Aussie ISIS fighters about to be snuffed out and buried in Raqqa if still alive
Two Australian ISIS fighters may have just days left to live, assuming they have not already been killed during the bloody struggle to liberate Raqqa from Islamic State militants.
US-led coalition forces today announced they had seized the last ISIS strongholds inside Raqqa, toppling the group’s self-declared capital in Syria.
But a few ISIS sleeper cells remain, and that is where Australian men Tareq Kamleh and Mounir Raad will be holed up and surrounded, if they are still alive or have not managed to flee the city.
Kurdish militia forces claim only foreign ISIS fighters are now still inside Raqqa, following a carefully negotiated surrender over the weekend.
On Saturday, Syrian ISIS fighters and civilians were allowed to leave the besieged city, but foreign fighters were explicitly excluded from the deal.
The evacuation appeared aimed at sparing the lives of civilians being used as human shields.
Perth-born Kamleh and Melbourne man Raad have featured in official ISIS propaganda videos in July and August, respectively, which appeared to place both men in Raqqa.
