EU Prolongs Sanction Against IS, Al-Qaeda
The EU Council of Ministers, Monday, adopted a decision to prolong existing sanctions against so-called Islamic State (IS/Daesh), Al-Qaeda, and other groups and individuals for a further year, until October 31, 2024.
Currently, the sanction regime in place applied to 14 persons and 5 groups.
Those targeted are subject to an asset freeze and a travel ban to the EU, said the Council in a statement.
Additionally, EU persons and entities were forbidden from making funds, financial assets or economic resources available to those listed under the sanction regime.
These autonomous EU sanctions are complementary to those imposed by the UN Security Council against (IS/Daesh) and Al-Qaeda, it noted.
