Egyptian army repels ISIS’s attack on checkpoint in Northern Sinai
The terrorists affiliated to the ISIL launched an assault against the Syrian government forces in a sparsely populated area West of Sheikh Zuweid, a predominately Bedouin town near the Gaza Strip, but failed to prevail over the army’s position.
As ISIL militants attempted to break through a military checkpoint on the perimeter village of Qabr Omair, the Egyptian Army rushed reinforcements to the area and managed to hold its ground before driving the ISIL militants back into the vast desert of Sinai Province, the AMN reported.
Although heavy clashes were reported to have taken place by local sources, the exact death toll on either side remains unbeknownst to AMN.
On Saturday, Egypt was struck by one of its worst terror attacks in years after ISIL militants detonated a massive bomb inside the Rawdah mosque and opened fire upon civilians in the town of Bir Al-Abed, also located in Northern Sinai.
According to officials, 305 Egyptian people were killed and a further 128 civilians wounded during the attack. Sadly, 27 children were among the dead.
