Egypt court sentenced five students to prison over joining Islamic State terrorist group in Giza

Egypt’s Supreme State Security Criminal Court handed varying prison sentences to five students on Monday over charges of leading and joining the Islamic State terrorist organization in Giza.

The court’s terrorism unit sentenced one of the students to life and another to 15 years in prison.

It also handed 10-year prison terms to the remaining three defendants.

They have been put under a five-year surveillance and placed on terrorism lists.

The first defendant was charged with leading a terrorist group which planned to target members of the Armed Forces, police and judiciary, as well as Coptic Christians’ houses of worship and public facilities.

He was also charged with endangering the safety of the society and its interests and security and obstructing state institutions from carrying out their duties, among other charges.
