Dangerous ISIS sleeper cells are hiding in Baghdad

An Iraqi Shi’ite lawmaker has warned of further deterioration of Baghdad’s security as Islamic State (IS) sleeper cells are hiding in the capital city of Iraq.

Sabah al-Agili, a member of the Iraqi parliament from Sadr’s Sairoon bloc called on the security forces in a statement on Wednesday to tighten security measures as the IS threat against the welfare of civilians in Baghdad is serious.

He claimed that political factions facilitate certain acts of terror in Baghdad by the IS insurgents for their own political gains.

The Iraqi government declared entire country free from IS last year in December. However, the extremist group remains active in certain areas of northern and western Iraq.

IS also carries out regular terrorist attacks, mainly targeting civilians, in Baghdad to continue challenging Iraqi security forces.
