Danaab commandos thwart Al-shabaab landmine plot
The Somali National Army’s Danaab Commandos together with the Jubbaland forces have foiled a planned landmine attack by the Al-Shabaab militants at the road connecting Janay-Abdalla and Bulo-Gadud.
The Thursday afternoon incident saw one militant killed and another arrested and an assortment of bomb making materials and weapons recovered.
The militants had targeted the road, a critical transport route in the area and could have posed a great danger to residents in the area.
“The heroic actions of our brave commandos and local forces exemplify our determination to safeguard our people from the scourge of terrorism,” stated an army official who spoke on the incident. “We will continue to remain steadfast in our mission to counter and neutralize any threats posed by Al-Shabaab.”
Residents in the area have praised the army and the Federal Government of Somalia for their consistent efforts to eliminate the threat posed by the Al-shabaab militants and re-assure residents of their security.
The Federal Government, which is gearing up for the second phase of the war against the Al-Shabaab militants has vowed to maintain its offensive and defensive efforts, collaborating with both national and international partners to ensure lasting peace and security in Somalia.
It further urges citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the security forces.
The collective determination to confront terror head-on serves as a beacon of hope for Somalia’s path towards lasting peace and prosperity.
