Security commanders and officials condemn al-Shabab attack in Jubbaland meeting
First Vice Deputy President of the Jubbaland regional state, Mohamud Sayid Adan, presided over the monthly regional security council meeting in Kismayo on Tuesday, which provincial ministers, SNA officials, and ATMIS officers attended.
The meeting focused on the most recent anti-al Shabab operations in Jubbaland, with reports from force commanders. During the meeting, security commanders and other officials condemned Tuesday’s al-Shabab attack in the Gedo region’s Bardhere district.
At least five people were killed and 11 others, including a regional governor, wounded in a suicide attack on Tuesday in Bardhere district. A vehicle laden with explosives ploughed into a guest house hosting government officials in Bardera, 450 kilometres (279 miles) west of Mogadishu, area police commander Hussein Adan said.
The group’s mortar attack in the Bardhere district also killed at least four people, including a mother and her children. According to residents, the attack killed the mother, her two children, and a male guest, while two children from the same family were injured.
The group claimed responsibility for the attack, stating that a bomber drove a suicide car bomb into a building where regional officials were meeting to plan anti-al-Shabab mobilization.
