Syrian Defence Forces Commander – “Al Baghdadi is hiding in Idlib province”
A spokesman from the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) told Russia Today’s Arabic channel that leader of the Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL/IS/Daesh), Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi, is currently hiding in the Idlib Governorate in northwestern Syria.
According to the spokesperson form the SDF, Mostafa Bali, the Islamic State commander is currently hiding among the Turkish-backed rebels in the Idlib Governorate.
Furthermore, Bali claimed on his Twitter page that the ISIS oil minister has confessed to transferring nearly 40 tons of gold and a large number of valuable goods from Iraq to Syria.
Despite these claims, Iraqi sources claimed in February that al-Baghdadi was alive and hiding in Syria near the Iraqi border.
“Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi is still alive and is in Syria,” RT quoted an Iraqi intelligence source as saying on condition of anonymity.
There have been multiple claims made regarding the whereabouts of Al-Baghdadi; however, it is still unclear where this terrorist leader is currently hiding out.
What is known from Syrian and Iraqi sources is that the Islamic State is still very active in both countries, despite the fact they do not control any significant piece of territory.
