Coalition jets strike ISIS caves near Makhmour
The fighter jets for the US-led Coalition on Tuesday carried out multiple airstrikes to target the Islamic State (IS) insurgents hiding on Mount Qarachoq near Makhmour.
The airstrikes destroyed at least 14 caves used as hideouts by the IS insurgents, said a security source who was anonymously cited by Kurdistan 24.
Makhmour is a subdistrict located some 56 kilometres southwest of Erbil. It falls under the administration of Nineveh province.
Even though the Iraqi government has long time ago announced its entire territories liberated from IS, the insurgents affiliated with the extremist group are still present and active in remote areas across Iraq.
