Clashes between Islamic State terrorists and local forces in eastern Syria

At least two were killed and five injured in clashes early on Monday between the US-backed Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and jihadist affiliates of the Islamic State (ISIS), according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).

SOHR said that casualties had resulted from two incidents.

In the first, one person was killed in an attack by the SDF in the eastern part of the Deir al-Zor province during an operation in which US Special Forces helicoptered in took part.

One man was killed and a woman and another man were arrested.

In the second incident, ISIS fighters carried out an attack on a group of people gathered in the western part of Deir al-Zor for a funeral.

One person was killed and five others were injured.
