ISIL claims responsibility for the series of explosions in Mazar-e-Sharif

In a message released on the ISIL’s (ISIS) Aamaq news agency, the group claimed responsibility for the Mazar-e-Sharif explosions.

In response to the Mazar-e-Sharif attacks, the US Special Envoy for Women and Human Rights in Afghanistan stated that the Taliban must ensure people’s security and prevent similar atrocities.

In Balkh province, three bomb blasts killed at least nine people and injured 15 others on Wednesday, 25th May.

The first two explosions, according to local sources, targeted passenger vehicles in the Hazara neighborhood.

The ISIL claimed responsibility for the attacks in Mazar-e-Sharif, according to the Aamaq News Agency, which frequently broadcasts ISIL-related propaganda and activity.

In response to Wednesday’s bombings in Kabul and Balkh, Rina Amiri, the US Special Envoy for Women and Human Rights in Afghanistan, tweeted: “The heinous attacks in Mazar & Kabul serves no purpose but to inflict further devastation on innocent Afghans who have suffered enough.”

“Preventing these horrid attacks & addressing the security & needs of all Afghans should be what the Taliban focus on,” Amiri remarked.

Additionally, an explosion at a Traffic square in Kabul’s fourth police district killed at least 30 people and injured others at the Hazrat Zekriya Mosque.

The Emergency hospital said that 22 people had been injured and that 5 of them had died on their way before reaching the hospital.

No group or individual has claimed responsibility for the blast in Hazrat Zekriya.

The Taliban face a severe security threat from the Khorasan branch of ISIS, which has been active in Afghanistan since 2014.

Since the Taliban reclaimed control of Afghanistan, the group has carried out a series of operations against minorities and Taliban fighters.
