Civilian killed in bomb blast in Iraq’s Diyala province
An Iraqi civilian was killed on Tuesday when an explosive device went off in Diyala province, a security source was quoted saying.
The source told Iraqi Ikhnews website that the device was placed on the side of a road in central Meqdadiah.
Explosives planted by Islamic State militants to fend off advancing Iraqi security forces have killed many civilians and security personnel, even after the Iraqi government declared the recapture of all territories that had been under the militants’ control in December 2017.
In its monthly death toll statistic, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI) said 79 civilians were killed in attacks and armed conflicts across Iraq during the month of July.
