British jihadi bride wanted to raise her children as terrorist assassins for ISIS terrorist group
A British woman who was married to the most senior US member of ISIS has revealed details of how she wanted to raise her children as “assassins” in her old life as a jihadi.
Tania Georgelas, 33, details how she was radicalised, how she met her husband and her dream to raise her children to become assassins and mujahideen.
She said: “Our dreams were to have land of our own, raise a family and train them to be assassins or whatever, soldiers, and then eventually go join the jihad.”
Ms Georgelas said she became radicalised after the September 11, 2001 attacks.
Speaking to Atlantic, she said: “I was 17, I saw the towers being crashed into and I went to school the next day.
“I said to my friend, ‘Oh isn’t it dreadful what happened’, and she looked at me and said ‘Is it really?’
“At that point, I became really jihadi hardcore.”
A few year later she attended an anti-war protest and was handed a leaflet about a Muslim dating site.
On the site, she met her future husband, John Georgelas.
He is the youngest child and only son of a former US military doctor, Colonel Timothy Georgelas and his wife Martha.
He grew up in Plano, Texas and is said to have rebelled as a teenager, taking drugs, dropping out of school and converting to Islam shortly after 9/11.
The couple married in a civil ceremony in October 2004 in Rochdale, England.
She already had three children and another one on the way in 2013 when they started discussing joining ISIS in Syria.
She said: “I’ve had these children for one reason only, and that was so they could serve God as Muslims, as mujahideen.”
In August 2013, the family travelled to Syria by bus and set up home in the abandoned villa of a Syrian general in A’za.
The children became ill within days because there were no windows, no running water and hardly any food.
They became ill with vomiting bugs and infections.
John agreed to let his wife leave, despite ISIS’ treatment of those who abandon the cause.
She left the Islamic State and moved to Texas to live with her husband’s family and decided to divorce him.
Her husband remains in Syria and is the highest-ranking American in ISIS.
John Georgelas is believed to write articles for ISIS propaganda websites and last year supposedly declared that Communities Minister Sajid Javid and former Tory party chairperson Baroness Warsi were on a “kill-list”.
Mrs Georgelas returned to online dating. She said: “I wrote an essay: ‘I have four kids, my husband abandoned me to become the next Osama Bin Ladin’. I got 1,300 replies.”
She met Craig, an IT worker who became her new husband.
Craig said: “She said right away that her husband was in IS, and I said ‘OK, that’s all right’.”
The couple now attends a Unitarian church and Mrs Georgelas said she wants to work for a de-radicalisation programme to help former terrorists.
But, in January a report in the Daily Mail raised questions about how completely Mrs Georgelas had severed ties with her husband.
After fleeing Syria, she visited a social networking site used by her husband to post his extremist articles and liked a final post made before the site was closed down.
But Atlantic reporter Graeme Wood said Tania seemed genuinely reformed.
He said: “She never, in my conversations with her, advocated violence or seriously regretted leaving John at the Syrian border.
“And yet there are signs – not of violence, but of a permanent effect of her jihadist brainwashing.”
He pointed to an offhand comment Tania had made that Shiite Muslims are “not really Muslim” and a casual characterisation of ISIS followers as just wanting “to live under a caliphate”.
