Kosovo man charged over attempt to join the ISIS terrorist group in Syria
The Special Prosecution of the Republic of Kosovo has indicted a Kosovo Albanian man on terrorism charges, who allegedly wanted to join ISIS in Syria but was caught in Turkey and sent back to Kosovo.
According to the indictment the Kosovo Albanian man, identified only as R.D. was charged under legislation that prohibits joining a foreign paramilitary force or participating in a conflict abroad. He was arrested on 02.06.2017 in Turkey, and was later extradited to Kosovo.
If convicted, the man could face up to 15 years in prison. Kosovo authorities say that about 70 citizens are believed to be active fighters with extremist groups in Syria and Iraq.
