CENTCOM confirms killing of two ISIS members in Hasaka
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) on Monday confirmed the killing of two Islamic State (ISIS) members by the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Force (SDF) in northeast Syria’s (Rojava) Hasaka.
The militants were preparing for a suicide bombing attack on Friday, but were “ambushed and killed before they were able to detonate their explosives,” read the statement from CENTCOM.
Rojava’s interior security forces (Asayish) said on Friday that they had foiled an ISIS attack, killing two members of the militant group after a 10-minute clash. Two kalashnikovs, eight hand grenades, and two explosive belts were among the weapons taken off the militants.
The US forces said that they were using the material and explosives to obtain information for future raids on ISIS.
ISIS has carried out over 40 attacks targeting the SDF and Rojava’s Kurdish administration since the start of the year, according to the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).
After their territorial defeat in March 2019 to a military operation led by the SDF and backed by a United States-led global coalition, ISIS militants have carried out hit-and-run attacks on civilians and military targets of both the Syrian regime and the Kurdish-led authority in the northwest of the country.
In its propaganda magazine on Thursday, ISIS claimed to have conducted 2 attacks in Syria from March 23 to March 29, killing and injuring 6 people.
