Businessman jailed eight years for supporting ISIS terrorist group
A businessman was sentenced to eight years’ jail by the High Court here for supporting the Islamic State (IS) militant group.
Tengku Shukri Che Engku Hashim, 31, pleaded guilty to knowingly giving support to the terror group through the “Gagak Hitam” Group Telegram application in Kota Baru, Kelantan, at 5.08pm on March 30 last year.
He was charged under Section 130J(1)(a) of the Penal Code and faced imprisonment for life or not more than 30 years, and forfeiture of property used or intended to be used in connection with the commission of the offence.
Tengku Shukri also admitted to a second charge under Section 130J(1)(b) of the Penal Code where he knowingly gave support to the commission of a terrorist act involving the use of explosives with intention to further an ideology.
The offence was committed between 3.18am and 11.27pm at the same place on June 28 last year.
Judicial Commissioner Ab Karim Ab Rahman sentenced Tengku Shukri to eight years in jail for supporting the IS and three years for the second charge.
Both sentences were to run concurrently from the date of arrest, on Sept 21, 2016.
