Brother of Islamic State terrorist Mohamed Elomar has bail revoked
The brother of Islamic State terrorist Mohamed Elomar has his bail revoked and returns to jail in New South Wales after being charged with stalking and intimidation.
The brother of Islamic State terrorist Mohamed Elomar will return to jail in New South Wales after his bail was revoked.
The State Parole Authority decided to revoke the parole of Ahmed Elomar after he was charged with stalking and intimidation.
Elomar was released on parole in August last year after serving almost three years for bashing a police officer in 2012.
Police allege he made threats towards a spectator at a children’s soccer match at Raby in Sydney’s south west in May.
A warrant was issued for his arrest after the authority made the ruling, and he handed himself in to authorities this afternoon.
Elomar’s release exposed divisions between the State Parole Authority and the New South Wales Government, which was at odds about how radicalised prisoners were treated.
His lawyer, Adam Houda, said he would challenge the decision.
“My client Ahmed Elomar will challenge revocation of his parole as he has not breached his parole conditions. Fairness not politics please!!!” Houda tweeted.
In June 2016, NSW Corrective Services commissioner Peter Severin urged the state’s parole board not to release Elomar until he completed a new de-radicalisation program.
Ahmed Elomar bashed the police officer as part of the 2012 Hyde Park riots in Sydney.
Mohamed Elomar’s wife, Fatima Elomar, was given a two-year suspended jail sentence in 2016 after pleading guilty to providing support for the terrorist group.
