Brooklyn court sentences man to 11 years in prison for supporting ISIS
A Brooklyn federal court sentenced a 36-year-old man to 11 years in prison on Wednesday for raising money to send Brooklyn residents to fight for ISIS and Al-Nusra Front, according to the Department of Justice.
Dilshod Khusanov, an Uzbek citizen who lives in Chicago, pleaded guilty to charges of providing material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization in October 2021.
In 2014 and 2015, Khusanov was a member of a network that raised money for people to travel to Syria to join ISIS and ANF.
The group called themselves “Chayxona,” Uzbek for tea party.
Alongside the financial support, authorities also uncovered messages from Khusanov encouraging others to join the two terrorist groups.
“I hope that the only [reason] that is preventing you from jihad is some mistakes and flaws that are occurring among the mujahedeen you witness or hear about,” he said in one.
“With today’s sentence, Khusanov has been punished for providing blood money to support violent jihad in Syria and Iraq,” stated U.S. Attorney Breon Peace. “The significant punishment will deter those who are considering aiding foreign fighters determined to join terrorist organizations like ISIS and Al-Nusra Front.”
Khusanov will be deported to Uzbekistan after completing his sentence.
He is one of seven defendants charged for participating in the same network.
