British authorities sanctioned the African Islamic State-affiliate groups
The UK on Monday moved to add the Islamic State in Greater Sahara (ISGS) & Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) to terrorist designation lists. ISWAP is also known as Boko Haram.
The financial sanctions, announced in a British Treasury statement, mean the two groups are subject to their assets being frozen, travel ban and arms embargo.
On Sunday, the United Nations added the two groups to its sanctions list.
